Slayer is an American thrash metal band formed in Huntington Park, California, in 1981 by guitarists Jeff Hanneman and Kerry King. Slayer rose to acclaim with their 1986 release, Reign in Blood, and is accustomed as one of the "Big Four" trash metal acts, forth with Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax. Their anthology Reign in Blood is advised to be the foundation and afflatus of afterlife metal.
Slayer was founded in 1981, back guitarist Kerry King met Jeff Hanneman while auditioning for a band. They recruited Chilean bassist and diva Tom Araya, who had played with King afore in the bandage Quits (previously accepted as Tradewinds). Drummer Dave Lombardo was recruited back he met King while carrying a pizza.
The bandage played awning versions of Iron Maiden and Judas Priest songs at clubs and parties in Southern California. Early shows relied on a Satanic image, which featured pentagrams, make-up, spikes, and astern crosses. Rumors that the bandage was originally accepted as Dragonslayer, afterwards the 1981 cine of the aforementioned name, were denied by King, as he stated, "We never were; it's a allegory to this day.
